COVID-19: Malaysia reports 2,356 new cases, 9 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: As of midnight Thursday, (Sept 1), Malaysia reported a total of 2,356 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the cumulative total to 4,784,980 cases since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Based on the data from the COVIDNOW portal, there were 5 imported cases while 2,351 were of local transmissions.

The highest number of cases were detected in Selangor with 775 infections recorded, followed by Kuala Lumpur (479), Sabah (227), Perak (175), Negeri Sembilan (127), Penang (104).

Meanwhile, other states that reported a two-digit number were Malacca (97), Johor (86), Sarawak (62), Pahang (59), Kelantan (49), Kedah (42), Terengganu (28), Putrajaya (25), Labuan (11) and Perlis (10).

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), there were 1,875 patients who recovered and got discharged, taking the overall recoveries so far to 4,717,292.

Currently there are 31,463 active cases, with 74 being held in the ICU with 46 of them in need of breathing assistance.

MOH report showed nine COVID-related deaths registered yesterday with three confirmed as brought-in-dead, which brings the overall total to 36,225 COVID deaths.

Malaysia administered a total of 3,677 COVID-19 vaccine doses on Thursday, with 86 per cent of the population having received at least one dose.

About 84.2 per cent of the nation are fully inoculated while 49.7 per cent of them have received the first booster, and 1.4 per cent have received their second booster jab.
