COVID-19: M'sia logs 3,788 new cases, Selangor records the highest

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has reported a total of 3,788 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.
The total number of infections now stands at 408,713.
In a tweet, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new cases today involved 1,125 local infections and eight imported cases. Local cases comprised 781 Malaysians and 344 foreigners.
There were 87 cases from prisons and immigration detention centres today, mostly involving the Jalan Harapan prison cluster, with 73 cases.
According to the Health Ministry, Selangor recorded the highest number of new cases, with 1,265 infections.
Meanwhile, eight other states have also logged three digit cases; Sarawak with 760 new cases, Kelantan with 464, Kuala Lumpur with 255, Penang with 250, Johor with 160, Negri Sembilan with 136, Kedah with 136 and Perak with 118.
In the statement, the Health DG also said there were 14,199 active cases, with 161 patients being treated in intensive care, with 76 requiring respiratory assistance.
The country reported five deaths overnight, bringing the number of fatalities to 1,265.
All five deaths today involved Malaysians with underlying health conditions, aged between 34 and 88.
