Eleven new COVID-19 cases were reported in the country today, involving 10 imported cases and one local transmission, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said this brings the total number of positive cases to 9,317, including 154 active cases.

“From the 11 cases reported, 10 were imported cases who were infected overseas involving six Malaysians and four foreigners.

“They are from India (seven cases in Kuala Lumpur and one case in Selangor); Indonesia (one case in Selangor) and Qatar (one case in Kuala Lumpur),” he said in a statement today.

He said the local transmission involved a Malaysian in Sarawak, who was detected through a pre-surgery screening at the Sarawak General Hospital.

Dr Noor Hisham said eight cases recovered today, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 9,038 or 97 per cent of the total positive cases.

“Eight COVID-19 positive cases are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, with six requiring ventilator support.

“No COVID-19-related deaths were reported today and the cumulative number of fatalities stands at 125 (1.34 per cent of the total cases),” he added.

Of the COVID-19 infection among personnel at the Terendak Camp Military Hospital in Melaka, Dr Noor Hisham said to date, 109 people have been identified as close contacts of the positive cases.

“They have been screened and are awaiting their results,” he added.

Dr Noor Hisham said they were also issued with the Home Surveillance Order letters and those with acute respiratory infection symptoms would be referred to the hospital for isolation and further treatment.

Close contact screening and field activities are ongoing and the ministry will give regular updates of the situation, he added.
