COVID-19: PPR, PA tenants need not pay rent for six months
The exemption for rent payments involves 3,636 units of rented or transit PPR houses under the management of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
Tenants of the People's Housing (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) projects under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) are not required to pay rent for six months beginning April, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
In presenting the Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package (PRIHATIN) today, he said the RM3 million rent would be borne by the government.
“The exemption for rent payments involves 3,636 units of rented or transit PPR houses under the management of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
"For rent-to-own units, a six-month deferment is provided for financing repayments from April to September 2020," he added.
As for Public Housing, Muhyiddin said DBKL would provide the same exemption, which benefits more than 40,000 tenants.
"I urge the state governments and other local authorities to provide the same exemption to ease the burden of PPR residents in their respective states," he added.
In addition, the prime minister said the government has also agreed to provide a six-month rent exemption for all Federal Government-owned premises such as school cafes, nurseries, cafeterias, convenience stores and more.
“This includes all premises owned by the agencies and the Federal Government statutory agencies. I also urge the state governments, local authorities and the GLCs to provide the same exemption,” he added.
