COVID-19: Second dose of vaccine for Labuan frontliners from March 20

LABUAN: The 2,340 COVID-19 frontliners here will receive the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine beginning this Saturday until April 3 at the vaccination centre of Membedai Health Clinic.

Labuan Health Department director, Dr Ismuni Bohari said administering of the first dose under phase one of the Labuan-level National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme ended on March 12, and it ran smoothly.

"We completed the first dose for all our registered frontliners ahead of schedule and so far, there have been no complaints of serious side effects from the vaccine recipients," he told Bernama.

As of today, Labuan has cumulative infections of 2, 271 with 13 deaths.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) chairman here, Rithuan Ismail said the project management team (under the CITF) headed by the Labuan Health Department and Malaysian Armed Forces would plan for the second and third phases.

"This team will allocate seven vaccination centres according to five zones. We will pool all resources to ensure that at least 80 per cent of Labuan's total population can be vaccinated," he added.

Rithuan is optimistic that the vaccination exercise can be completed by the year-end, two months ahead of the schedule, February 2022.
