Selangor recorded a drop of up to four percent in the crime prevention index in several districts in January and February this year compared to the same period last year.
Selangor police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said the drop involved housebreakings and street crimes due to the relentless efforts of the police.
He said the five districts recording drops were Klang Utara, Serdang, Kuala Langat, Ampang Jaya and Shah Alam.
"Since January 1 until today, the crime prevention index has gone down in several districts with Klang Utara recording the highest drop.
"The National Key Result Area for crime prevention stipulates at least 10 percent of the crime must be brought down but Klang Utara experienced a drop of up to 20 percent and this is praiseworthy," he told reporters here, today.
He earlier participated in a Friendly Cycling With The Community programme for 34km organised by the Klang Utara District Police Headquarters with 565 others.
Mohd Shukri, nevertheless, said the communities should not be lackadaisical over personal security because the effort to check crime is not the duty of the police alone.
