Criminalise War Clubs in schools
The Kuala Lumpur Foundation to Criminalise War has proposed the introduction of "Criminalise War Club" in schools.
"We must make war a crime and we are going to start campaign this through our children. The younger generation will be help us to spread this message. There is no point in wanting and talking about peace if war is not stopped," said Criminalise War Club founder Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
The aim of the club is to promote advocacy among school children and create awareness of the destruction war could lead to societies, especially children.
"It is time to engage the younger generation about war because it will affect them if nothing is to be done.
"We do not want to suffer anymore and this is the least we can do for now," she added.
She added that the schoolchildren will manage the club.
"The Kuala Lumpur Foundation to Criminalise War will work with students and teachers. However, we want the students to manage the club. We will only guide them as to what to do," she said.
Cempaka Schools and Tunku Kursiah College have formed the Criminalise War Club but Siti Hasmah is hoping that more schools will make this club available.
She was at the International Conference War-Affected Children at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday. She is pleased by the attendance of schoolchildren as a step towards understanding the situation in conflicted areas.
"During the session, it was easy to convince them in simple terms on why war should be stopped. They need to see what is happening in Iraq, Gaza and other conflicted area so that it will not be repeated," she concluded.
