Cuba has sought Malaysia's support for a revocation of the unilateral trade sanctions imposed by the United States (US) on the country.
This was conveyed by the republic's Acting Foreign Minister Ana Teresita Gonzalez Fraga to her Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, during the latter's visit to Cuba from Aug 27 to 29.
Wisma Putra, in a statement here Sunday, said the recovery of the US-Cuba relations, would be the catalyst for more rapid development in Latin America.
"This will boost the tourism industry, which is expected to record an increase in the number of international tourist arrivals to Cuba, including from the US.
"Malaysia welcomes the restoration of US-Cuba diplomatic relations after it was severed 54 years ago. Malaysia is confident that it will lead to rapid development in Cuba," the statement said.
