The Federal Territories Ministry plans to provide motorcycle racing tracks in designated areas in the federal capital to meet the needs and interests of the youths who want them.
Its minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said this would create new amusement centres which were more healthy and beneficial.
"It will be part of a programme which is beneficial to them so that they do not take part in illegal races which waste time and endanger them as well as other road users.
"Discussions about the programme include suitable locations and organisers who are interested to provide food trucks.
"At the same time, we will also provide new motorcycle parts as well as training and education on repairing motorcycles and maybe in the future, they can become skilled mechanics and open up their own workshops," he told a press conference held after opening the new road and bridge connecting Kampung Batu Muda to Taman Metropolitan Batu, here today.
Tengku Adnan said the road would also include a bicycle track connecting it to the Keretapi Tanah Melayu station in Kampung Batu.
He added that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had also identified several areas where the infrastructural facilities would be upgraded.
"Other areas are also being studied," he said.
He added that the ministry was also waiting for the proposals from the private sector to provide tram services in Kuala Lumpur as proposed for Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.
Commenting on the issue of Pasar Wirawati in Kampung Pandan which is rumoured to be demolished, Tengku Adnan said this matter had not been decided yet.
"We are looking at locations, especially markets, which are not doing well, and will upgrade these areas.
"However, these upgrading works will not jeopardise the traders and vendors in the market as they will be carried out according to the procedure," he said adding that a special dialogue on the matter would be held between DBKL and the traders soon.
