ACP Sum Chang Keong said the three men wearing fully covered crash helmets entered the currency exchange shop at about 6.45 pm as it was about to close for business.
Three men armed with toy pistols escaped with RM2 million worth of foreign currency and Malaysian Ringgit from a currency exchange shop in Jalan Mustafa Al Bakri here, yesterday.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the three men wearing fully covered crash helmets entered the currency exchange shop at about 6.45 pm as it was about to close for business.
"The robbers grabbed a shotgun from a security guard and ordered an employee to open a safe and scooped the money. They fled in a Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive vehicle," he said in a statement today.
Police found two toy pistols believed used in the robbery dumped outside the currency exchange shop.
Sum said they are studying footage from closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to trace the robbers.
