Customs state director, among the 13 remanded for contraband items probe

A Customs state director is among the thirteen remanded on suspicion of being involved in the release of contraband items worth millions of Ringgit in unpaid duties.
The state director with the title ‘Datuk’ and the officers were arrested yesterday.
They will be remanded until Wednesday to help in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations into illicit cigarettes and alcohol, the New Straits Times reported.
They will be investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act.
The men were aged between 32 and 57.
