Cyber Defence Unit capable of fending off threats - Hishammuddin

The national defence system has been enhanced with the setting up of the Cyber Defence Unit which monitor closely the cyber threats.

Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the system developed last year was important due to non-physical and non-conventional security threats which require expertise to control.

"The main focus of the Cyber Defence Unit is to enhance the cyber defence against infra system of information and communications technology (ICT), security posture audit and forensic cyber activities.

"I believe Malaysia will become one of the countries that have the potential to move forward in this field at the same time fend off attempts to infiltrate our defence system," he told reporters after attending the ministry's monthly assembly and Innovation Day, here yesterday.

Hishammuddin declined to reveal the number of cyber attacks on the national defence system since the Cyber Defence Unit was established. -- Bernama
