Cyberview Sdn Bhd, the master developer of Cyberjaya, yesterday announced that the pioneer green city is committed to reduce 21 per cent of carbon emissions by year 2020.
“Cyberjaya is progressing well in making the premier ICT hub a greener environment for living and working. Reducing carbon emission by 21 per cent by 2020 is not without its challenges. To meet our target it will require comparable reductions in emissions of carbon dioxide, the principal greenhouse gas, which are mainly the result of burning fossil fuels.
"The green culture that we are trying to propagate will be a distant reality if Malaysia is still guided by the profits at the expense of the environment,” said Deputy Secretary General of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) Datuk Hajjah Nor’ Aini Abdul Wahab in a statement today.
She also presented the Cyberjaya Low Carbon City Framework (LCCF) to Cyberjaya main stakeholders - Cyberview Sdn Bhd, Sepang Municipal Council, Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd, and Multimedia Corporation.
According to acting managing director of Cyberview Izatul Arini, Cyberjaya, since its inception, has been planned towards a green city with more than 30 per cent of its land being reserved for infrastructure and as green lung area. The city was accorded the status of pioneer green city in 2010.
The master developer also unveiled several upcoming green initiatives for Cyberjaya, which comes under the low carbon city plan.
“As one of the two identified pioneer green townships, Cyberview is collaborating with other stakeholders to further shaping the green city to reduce the carbon emissions by 21 per cent in 2020, using the low carbon strategies laid out in the LCCF.
"With the LCCF, we are seeking to reduce carbon footprint via four (4) elements - Urban Environment, Urban transportation, Urban Infrastructure & Building.
"We have carried out some initiatives such as Tree Planting programme and other green initiatives include the installation of solar panels on bus shelters, GreeNomad Kiosks, and composting machines will be installed in Cyberjaya. These efforts would not be possible without the generous support of like-minded companies,” Izatul said.
