DAP to name Chow Kon Yeow as Penang's CM-candidate for second term - Anthony Loke

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke in a statement said the decision was made unanimously at the DAP's candidate selection committee meeting which he chaired last night.

Members of the committee comprised DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo and two vice-presidents Nga Kor Ming and M. Kulasegaran.

"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been informed about the decision and he, as the chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH), also gave his blessing," he said.

Loke said the committee also decided to make a major renewal in the state executive council involving DAP representatives if the PH-Barisan Nasional coalition retains power in the state in the upcoming polls.

Loke also explained that the renewal process is necessary to ensure the continuity and sustainability of DAP's leadership in Penang, with a younger, dynamic leadership capable of leading the state towards progress in all areas for the prosperity and well-being of the people.

"The full list of DAP candidates for the state polls will be finalised at the committee's meeting next week.

"The names of all DAP candidates will be announced at least a week before the nomination day," he said.

The Election Commission (EC) has set the state elections for Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah to be held simultaneously on Aug 12, which the nomination on July 29 and early voting on Aug 8.
