DAP retains traditional seat of Padungan

KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) has retained its traditional seat of Padungan in the 12th Sarawak State Election after state chief, Chong Chien Jen defeated Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Datuk Wee Hong Seng with a majority of 1,198 votes.
Returning officer Theresa Korina Peter said Chong secured 4,686 votes while Wee accumulated 3,485 votes.
Parti Bumi Kenyalang's Raymond Thong Ee Yu and Lina Soo of Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak obtained 930 votes and 193 votes, respectively.
"With the cooperation of all parties, the state election for the Padungan seat has run smoothly and perfectly," said Theresa during the announcement of the official results for the state seat today.
During the 11th state election in 2016, former DAP man Wong King Wei won the seat with a majority of 4,270 votes.
Theresa said voter turnout was at 44.76 per cent.
