A housewife, Datin Rozita Mohamad Ali, was charged in the Sessions Court today with the attempted murder of her Indonesian maid last week.
Rozita, 43, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence, at a house in Mutiara Damansara between 7am and noon on Dec 21, after the charge was read out to her before Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam.
She was accused of having attempted to murder Suyanti Sutrinso, 19, with a kitchen knife, a clothes hanger, a mop steel handle and an umbrella, causing Suyanti to suffer serious injuries.
Suyanti was badly injured in the eyes, hands and legs and internal organs, suffered a blood clot under the skin on the head, bleeding spots in front of the brain, a broken cheek bone, jaw and left shoulder as well as injury to the right lung.
DPP Khairul Aisamuddin Abdul Rahman did not propose bail but counsel Rosal Azimin Ahmad requested bail of RM5,000, saying Rozita suffered from a nerve disorder and asthma.
Mohamad Kamil set bail at RM20,000 in one surety and imposed the condition that Rozita be prohibited from approaching the witness during the trial.
"The accused must also report to the nearest police station once a month and surrender her passport to the court until the case has been settled," he said.
The court set Feb 7 for mention of the case.
The incident came to light after several photographs of a bleeding Suyanti had gone viral on social media.
A security guard found the maid by a drain and informed a nearby resident. -- BERNAMA
