KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will be extending its 1C1R (1 Community 1 Recycling) Kiosk and composting centre initiatives to over 60 Public Housing Projects (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) towards enhancing recycling among the city dwellers.
Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said the 1C1R Kiosks were static kiosks to make it easier for the local communities to send in their items for recycling or be exchanged with basic essentials such as sugar and flour.
He said the composting centres were meanwhile aimed at encouraging the use of organic fertiliser for gardening towards environmental sustainability, besides helping the local communities generate income by selling their agriculture-based products such as Brazil spinach chips.
"This programme is based on the recycling economy which will indirectly assist the B40 group, especially at the PPR and PA," he said at the officiating of the initiative at PPR Beringin, here, today.
Shahidan said so far, two PPR had been selected for the pioneer project including the PPR Seri Alam and several aspects such as the effectiveness of the composting machine technology would be observed before extending the programme to other localities.
"Hopefully, this initiative could increase the practice of separating solid waste and making environmental protection and conservation a culture, hence creating a clean and low-carbon environment.
