Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) today instructed a multimedia company to retract its advertisement displayed on a digital billboard in Bukit Bintang.
DBKL director-general Datuk Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said the instruction was issued to overcome public misperceptions about the advertisement, which purportedly showed a pig wearing a traditional Baju Melayu and songkok and wishing people "Selamat Hari Raya'.
"DBKL would like to stress that the image displayed on the billboard is the image of a wombat, which is the mascot of the Australia-based company.
"DBKL has also instructed the company to retract the advertisement to avoid negative public perceptions," he said in a statement today.
The advertisement, accused of being disrespectful of Muslims, had also gone viral over the social media.
