DC Says: Monkey see monkey do

Monkey see monkey do

The only exposure they had to driving were all bad ones. They do not know any better. These are known as monkey-see-monkey-do (MCMD).

These folks are clueless because what most see as bad habits are what they have been taught. The culprits are usually family members and friends. Thank you for perpetuating crap drivers on the road. If I had my way, JPJ would be enforced to eradicate bad drivers, instead of measuring numbers and alphabets, and looking at how dark the window tinting is.

You don’t use your signal lights – you get a fined. You overtake on the emergency lane – you get a fined. You switch on your hazard lights while driving, yes… even if it is pouring cats and dogs – you get fined. You double park AND not be in hearing distance of a cursory or angry honk – you get fined.

In fact, scratching a car paint job after a 5 minute wait for double parking offence should not only be legalized, but made mandatory.

You get the picture.

The MCMD needs to be reprogrammed. And for this to happen, they first need to list all their “mentors” in driving ethics. These folks should be fined. And then be sent for reprogramming. The reprogramming will include basic classroom test, and may or may not include shock therapy (I’m just saying’).

Having passed the reprogramming, they will be monitored for a year. Failing… is not an option. And, I might add here, may or may not include shock therapy.

But soon enough, there will be less bad drivers on the road. As the “good news” spread through extensive use of social media and youtube (especially the scenes on shock therapy), people will naturally be more inclined to driving right, being more courteous on the road.

And hey, let’s be clear on a few other things… when the traffic lights turn from green to amber, it is not a challenge to cross the lights before it turns red. No, you don’t get points for that. No, they don’t give you free fuel vouchers for this. Pedestrians crossing the roads are not bowling pins or targets. You are not doing them any favours by “helping” them to cross faster by speeding full throttle at them. If cars are queuing, it is not okay to force your way in and cut queue.

And one last thing… it is definitely not okay to throw things out of your car… unless it’s your bad driving habits. No… you cannot categorise your mother-in-law as a bad driving habit, although… there is nothing to stop you from naming them as a “mentor” for you driving badly. Think about that.
