DC Says: Which new car to buy?

I know, right??? It’s the age old question, since the beginning of time. According to a great piece fiction called “Human evolution”, it must have happened this way:

One day, the evolving primates sat around and did what they usually did, picking and eating fleas must have been right up there on the TOP 10 list of things to do. And the brightest of them suddenly stopped and… enlightenment. He (or she) questioned, “What car do I get next?”

And it’s the very same question that many of us have. It does not matter if you just bought a brand new luxury saloon or sports car, or if you can’t even afford a basic mode of transportation to call your own… the question appears, out of nowhere and for no apparent reason other than it is a universally important question.

Well, there are many ways to answer this question. Most would discover that they already have a model in mind and every rationale they develop leads to that one model. It does not matter if you happen to stay in a gravel-based stretch, you will still find a “reason” to buy a low-slung sports car. You just got to have it.

But, if you are like me, you will list down some attributes on a car and see what existing car matches the list. Perhaps the list can read like thus: Comfortable but not soft, powerful enough to overtake slower cars at will, high enough to wade over some flood waters, corners like it was on rails, and a great sound system.

You would, of course end up with the Porsche Cayenne.

But what if you happen to think that it is a very ugly looking piece of… I mean what alternatives would you have?

This is when you go back to the list and see what on the list can be relegated to be “less important”. And the process goes on for a few rounds until you come to an absolutely final list of what attributes the car needs to have to keep you happy.

Then there is the small issue of brands. Are you really open to any brands out there? Probably not. Not if you are in Malaysia. Status is a delicate game that most will not admit to be a part of. But most are.

Happy hunting.
