A post-mortem on a two-year-old toddler who subsequently died after being brought to a health clinic by her sister and brother-in-law on Monday showed numerous wounds on the body.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said there were burn marks on the left leg of the toddler and tears in the scalp on the left side of her head.
"Investigations also revealed that the victim has old and fresh injuries all over the body including on her face, head and legs.
"Both her ears and lips were also torn; there were bruises on her back and third-degree burns," he said in a statement here, today.
He said Nudzirah Nur Safiah Sabarudin, the youngest of eight children, was believed to have succumbed to infection as a result of untreated wounds.
The child was brought to the Paka health clinic on Monday at 3pm by her sister and brother in-law, with whom she was staying at Paka, Dungun, but passed away several hours later.
According to Wan Abd Aziz, the victim lived with her sister and brother in law, who have since been detained for further investigation, as their parents were working in Kuala Lumpur.
