Speculations on the fate of Southeast Asia's Daish militant chief, Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi who was said to have been killed in an attack in Syria have yet to be confirmed, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
He said when the matter had been verified, police would issue a special statement.
"Police are monitoring to confirm the news. This is good news to our efforts to combat terrorism," he told reporters at a handing over of duty for the Perak police chief at the Police Air Wing Unit Training Base here today.
On April 29, Muhammad Wanndy's wife, Nor Mahmudah Ahmad, 28, uploaded a posting on Facebook which indicated her husband had been killed in a drone attack in Ma'dan, Syria.
Muhammad Wanndy who is also known as Abu Hamzah Al-Fateh was believed to be the mastermind of several attacks in the region including at an entertainment centre in Puchong, Selangor last year.
It was reported Daish top leaders were beginning to lose confidence in him after his failures in the operations in Malaysia.
The 26-year-old man from Durian Tunggal, Melaka was reported to have been pressured to prove his capability in the eyes of Daish leaders.
