Debate postponed due to lack of time - Abdul Hadi

PAS decided to postpone the debate of its Private Members' Bill on hudud in Dewan Rakyat today because it was running out of time, said its President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

“Give a chance to the members (of Parliament) to have some time. Today (meeting) is about to end,” he said when asked for the reason in postponing the debate to the next Parliament session.

Today is the last day of the Second Meeting of the 4th Session of the 13th Parliament. The next meeting is scheduled to commence on October 17.

According to Abdul Hadi, what matters is, the government has allowed the bill to be debated and "the second part of it will come (later)."

He said, the motion was related to efforts to upgrade the syariah courts and it only involves the Muslims.

“The motion is related to the upgrading of syariah courts. It is just only tabled.

"This is my fourth time tabling it since 1995. It only concerns the Muslims. Nothing to do with the non-Muslims,” he said.

The Private Member's Bill pertaining to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) Bill 2016 was tabled for the first time in the House today.

Earlier today, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has moved a motion to bring forward the debate on the bill which was initially listed as the last topic in the Order Paper today.
