Decision on vaping in Selangor subject to Health Ministry police - Exco

The Selangor state government has adopted the approach that any decision regarding the use of electronic cigarettes or vape in the state is subject to the current direction and policy of the Health Ministry (KKM).

The state executive councillor in charge (Exco) Dr Daroyah Alwi said in this regard, KKM was urged to formulate, study and review related acts and legislation so that enforcement could be effectively implemented.

"All laws concerning the vaping issue such as the Poisons Act 1952, Food Act 1983 and Food Regulations 1985 are under the jurisdiction of KKM," she said in a statement here today.

Daroyah said the state government through the local authorities had since Jan 1 also taken measures to freeze renewal and applications for vape sales licence in the state until a decision on whether to ban vape or otherwise is announced.

"So far, 69 licences have been issued to vape operators of which 30 are temporary licences.

"Apart from that, we also gazetted all non-smoking areas in Selangor as vape prohibited areas such government premises, hospitals, education institutions, places of worship, parks and recreational grounds as well as rest and recreational areas (RNRs)," she said.
