The Defence Ministry will further strengthen cooperation with the police to monitor the influence of Daesh militants from spreading among the people.
Its deputy minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum said even though the job of monitoring the Daesh militants was under the police's purview, his ministry also had intelligence personnel who worked closely with the police to address the issue.
"We cannot take this issue lightly because it involved Malaysians who, today, if we look at the social media, are involved in terrorism," he told reporters after the breaking of fast with armed forces veterans here last night.
He did not deny that there was some military personnel who were involved with the Daesh militants but all of them had been identified and handed over to the police for further action.
In September last year, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said military personnel found involved with the Daseh militant group would be sacked from the service.
This followed the detention of several military personnel in August 2015 who were detected to have been involved with the terrorist group.
On border security during the festive season, Johari said the people, especially in Sabah need not worry because his ministry was always on the alert for any threats faced.
