The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) today called on the government to defer tabling in the Cabinet the Malaysia Education Blueprint (Higher Education) 2015-2025, saying the plan is focused only on academic staff.
CUEPACS president Datuk Azih Muda said the plan did not take into account and had ignored the non-academic staff, which included administrative workers and implementer groups one and two at each institute of higher learning in Malaysia.
"What will they gain under the education blueprint? Will there be an increase in posts? What would be the career path?
"What are the incentives they would get if their university is upgraded?" he told Bernama here after a meeting and seminar organised by a meeting of presidents and honorary secretaries of the Malaysian University Staff Unions (GAKUM) involving 93 participants from 20 public institutes of higher learning today.
Azih said that before the plan was tabled in the Cabinet, it should first be presented to CUEPACS and GAKUM as it should be improved.
He said the management of a successful institute of higher learning needed the cooperation of all parties.
