Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said the depreciation of the ringgit is good for the country’s tourism industry.

“Only mad people do not understand what it means when the ringgit is close to RM4 for every AS$1.

“When our currency value is weak, will we travel to London? Where will you spend your money? PD (Port Dickson), Penang.

“That is why I say, a person can be considered mad if they fail to understand what I say,” said Nazri at the Declaration of 2015 National Heritage at the National Museum here today.

Nazri said, the depreciation of the ringgit will also entice tourists to spend more in the country.

“So it (depreciation of the ringgit) is good for tourism, and local tourism,” he said.

Earlier, Nazri was asked on his opinion on the current situation of the ringgit which hit a fresh 17-year low of RM3.93 for each AS$1.
