Detainee dies after fight with cell mate

A man who was undergoing rehabilitation for drug addition was killed in a fight with another detainee at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre in Gambang last night.

The 31-year-old victim, who was undergoing treatment at the centre for four days, prior to the fight at a cell in the centre, succumbed to head injuries at a nearby health clinic.

The police have detained a suspect, in his 40s, to facilitate investigations into the murder.

Initial investigations by the police who were informed of the incident at 7.45pm, indicated that the fight was linked to the victim's unsettled debt.

"We believe the fight, stemming from an unsettled debt, was initiated by the victim who reportedly kicked the suspect's leg.
