The Dewan Rakyat today observed a minute of silence to mark the second anniversary of the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 carrying 239 passengers and crew on March 8 2014.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, when beginning the Parliament session today requested Muslim Members of Parliament (MPs) to recite the 'surah Al-Fatihah' while non-Muslim members observed the one-minute of silence.
He said the search mission by three countries namely Malaysia, Australia and China now entered the second phase in an area measuring 120,000 sq km in the southern Indian Ocean.
"The disappearance of the flight MH370 carrying 239 passengers and crew is now exactly two years old. The governments of Malaysia, Australia and the People's Republic of China remain committed in the search mission for the aircraft," he said.
According to him, the disappearance of the flight MH370 was a very sad tragedy that was heartbreaking for Malaysians.
"The House hopes that all the next of kins of the passengers and crew of MH370 remain strong and resolute in facing the test and accepting fate. We pray that the almighty Allah blesses their soul and placed them among the righteous.
"Our memory is always with the next of kins and family members of the passengers and crew of the MAS flight MH370," he said, adding that hopefully the search mission would succeed in resolving the mystery behind the disappearance of the aircraft.
The flight MH370 disappeared from radar screens while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and has yet to be found until today after a massive search operation was carried out in the southern Indian Ocean, the location where the aircraft was believed to have ended its journey after deviating from the original route.
On July 29 last year, a part of the flaperon of the ill-fated aircraft was found at the La Reunion island, in the waters of Madgascar.
Earlier this month, another discovery of a part of an object believed to belong to the Boeing 777 aircraft was reported to be found in the Mozambique waters, while the latest yesterday, another aircraft part was found at the La Reunion island, which was also linked to the MH370 aircraft.
