KUALA LUMPUR: The government has set up a special committee to review the report by the Special Committee on Election System and Law Improvement (ERC).
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law), Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, said the committee is chaired by Senior Minister (International Trade and Industries) Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
He said this in reply to a question from Khoo Poay Tiong ((PH-Kota Melaka) whether the final report of the ERC will be published and distributed to Members of Parliament (MPs) and the public.
"These findings will of course be open to the public for them to provide views.
"This is definitely a step that the government will take and as a report made by the committee on behalf of the government.
"This report will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat for the attention of MPs. If there is a need, it can be debated directly or indirectly in the Dewan Rakyat," he said in the Dewan Rakyat, here on Monday.
Earlier, during the Question-and-Answer Session for Oral Answers, the MP for Kota Bharu informed that the government was very committed in ensuring that the development of democracy is in line with the passage of time and the needs of the people in the country.
Therefore, he explained, the ERC has conducted a study for more than two years and was completed in early August.
"The Prime Minister has received the report on behalf of the government on 27 August 2020. This report contains 49 improvement recommendations that touch on the electoral system, processes and laws related to elections
"The report submitted by the ERC is not only a change in the electoral process but also a change in various aspects of government management which also involves various ministries and agencies," he said.
