Not having an iota of evidence to link the mother of Siti Soffea Emelda, two-and-a-half-year-old, to the suspect in the brutal killing of the child is complicating police efforts to identify the motive, said Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief, SAC Gan Kong Meng.
"So far, there is no evidence to link the relationship between the suspect and the victim's mother or her husband. Therefore, it is difficult to get a lead to determine the motive for killing this poor child," he said in a statement to the media today.
According to Gan, the investigation papers will be referred to the public prosecutor next week for advice or further instructions on the investigation of the case.
In the May 29 incident, Siti Soffea's decapitated body was found at about 9 pm near the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) station in Jalan Hishamuddin, here.
The body of the alleged suspect believed to have jumped into the Klang river after killing the child was found floating in the river near the Sunway toll plaza on May 31.
