Director, Govt department officer in Malacca released on MACC bail

A director and a government department officer in Malacca who were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection investigations into an alleged bribery and false claims case were released Tuesday after their statements was recorded.

Malacca MACC director, Ramli Ismail, when contacted by Bernama said the director and officer were released on MACC bail of RM10,000 and RM5,000 with one surety each.

However, he declined to elaborate further as the case was still under MACC investigation under Section 16 and Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

Bernama on Tuesday reported that MACC had detained a director and an officer from a government department here to facilitate investigations into an alleged false claim and corruption case.

Malacca state secretary Datuk Naim Abu Bakar urged everyone to give space to the Commission to carry out their investigations saying the state government would not compromise with any administrative staff involved in such offences.

"The MACC will take action against any civil servant involved in misconduct. Therefore I advise all civil servants to pay serious attention to integrity and transparency when performing their duties.

"Our responsibility is to bear the trust that has been bestowed on us in carrying out our duties and by committing a misconduct we put the government's and public servants' integrity and reputation in jeopardy," he said.
