Disclose identity of UMNO leader attempting to topple govt - Khairy

UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin wants the identity of the UMNO leader who is alleged to be working with opposition MPs to topple government to be exposed.

The Youth and Sports Minister said the disclosure by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the plot was serious and swift actions should be taken to thwart the attempt.

"We need to know who is the individual, more so as it involves a person in UMNO said to be plotting to topple the government illegally.

"The attempt is linked to a member of Parliament and as an MP, I also wish to know who is the individual so that precautions could be taken to stay away from that person," he told reporters after opening the Bukit Katil UMNO division meeting on Sunday.

Also present was Bukit Katil UMNO head Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam.

Ahmad Zahid revealed the plot to topple the government when opening the Ampang UMNO division meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Saturday.

Meanwhile, Khairy said the setting up of the National Consultative Committee on Political Funding (JKNMPP) to formulate a plan for political funding was a solution on the matter for political parties in the country.

"I understand the question of political funding is the right of the leaders but the committee would bring about a more transparent system and guidelines on the issue for all political parties and not only for UMNO," he said.

In another development, he said UMNO Youth would investigate and sought clarification from Tampin UMNO Youth head on the motion by Kampung Ulu Ladang UMNO Youth branch chief at its delegates' meeting Sunday to ask Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign.

"I have been informed this is an emergency motion of a branch in Tampin and it is not the stand of Tampin UMNO Youth...usually at such meetings, we (leaders) have to face various motions including various forms of criticisms but it does not mean it is the stand of the Tampin UMNO Youth," he said.
