The allegation by Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Persekitaran Positif Malaysia (SEED) that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had rounded up the homeless in the city and dropped them at various distant locations is just a misunderstanding.
Federal Territories Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan said the exercise was organised by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) while DBKL was only providing assistance and not heading the operation.
"This is just a misunderstanding. The operation was done by a government agency (AADK) and DBKL was only giving logistic support as requested by the agency.
"Why would we want to carry out such operations, as we already have our own homeless transit centres located in Jalan Pahang and Medan Tuanku?" he said during a press conference at Kompleks Dayabumi, here, today.
Loga also said, two lorries and few DBKL officers were deployed during the operation, to help AADK.
Recently, DBKL has been accused of displacing homeless people by driving and dropping them off at random locations.
The allegation comes from Lalita Abdullah of SEED, through a Facebook post detailing events which happened on May 22.
Meanwhile, Loga said, SEED should check their facts first, before hurling accusations at DBKL.
“If SEED really care about the homeless, let’s have a meeting with DBKL, to discuss about the homeless issue and, to help them.”
