Disrupted water supply to be restored by today, tomorrow

Water supply in the Petaling, Kuala Langat and Sepang districts, disrupted since Tuesday due to contamination, is expected to be restored by today while supply in the Hulu Langat district is expected to be back to normal early tomorrow.

Selangor Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Agriculture Modernisation and Agro-Based Industry Committee chairman Zaidy Abdul Talib said today the redistribution was carried out after the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant went into operation at full capacity from 3 am yesterday.

He said an in situ analysis for pH, ammonia and manganese parameters in the water from Sungai Semenyih and its tributaries, conducted by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) and Syarikat Konsortium ABASS Sdn Bhd, found the samples to be at the normal rate.

"Investigations are still ongoing to identify the cause of the contamination," he said in a statement.

Zaidy said Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) would continue to provide emergency water supply assistance via 49 tankers, mobilised since Tuesday, to reduce inconvenience to consumers in the affected areas.

He also urged consumers experiencing water supply disruption to check the details of the recovery status according to area on the Syabas website at www.syabas.com.my.

The water supply disruption and low water pressure affected 39 areas in Petaling involving 135,000 households; 72 areas in Kuala Langat involving 45,029 households; 216 areas in Hulu Langat involving 146,954 households and 61 areas in Sepang involving 148,236 households.
