Diver goes missing near Pulau Tioman

A diver went missing while participating in a diving activity off Teluk Genting, near Pulau Tioman on Friday.

Rompin police chief DSP Johari Yahaya said berkata, police received the report on the incident at 6.20pm.

"The victim, Mohd Afif Abd Hamid, 28, from Sungai Petani, Kedah, was participating in the diving activity with 19 other divers at around 2pm when his team members realised that he had gone missing," he told Bernama here.

He said the team members tried to locate him around the area but to no avail.

Johari said the search and rescue operation to locate the man was immediately launched with the cooperation from members of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.

"The operation, however, had to be called off this evening and will be resumed tomorrow," he added.
