KUALA LUMPUR: Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) announced that 5G network can now be enjoyed in certain areas throughout Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Kuala Lumpur.
Chief Executive Officer Ralph Marshall said Telekom Berhad's Unifi Mobile and YTL Communications' YES are the first two operators to provide 5G access to their customers within coverage areas under a pilot programme.
DNB said it will also be offering wholesale 5G services for free to all mobile network operators (MNO) that are integrated into its network.
The offer will remain until March 31 next year.
"We are ready to work with all mobile network operators in the industry to boost 5G network services for Keluarga Malaysia nationwide," said Marshall at the launch of Malaysia’s 5G services today.
He added that DNB will provide wholesale 5G services to the MNOs at a significantly lower cost than their present cost to produce 4G capacity.
This, he said, would allow MNOs to offer lower prices to their customers for mobile 5G services.
Marshall added that end users with 5G-compatible devices will be able to enjoy an average speed of 100 Mbps.
DNB aims to extend 5G coverage to 80 percent of populated areas nationwide by the 2024.
