Do Malaysians want unlicensed taxi service, questions Syed Hamid

Recognising Uber Car service will give the impression that consumers are willing to use unlicensed taxi services.

According to SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, although Malaysia is a free country, this does not mean allowance would be given for private cars to be used as taxis.

“We are free country but I think you must focus on issue if you petition to allow them that means you are petitioning for something not just Uber, but for private cars to be used as taxi.

“That means you are going into a regime saying taxis don't have to have license. What if an accident occurs? Do the people need this?” questioned Syed Hamid during a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur today.

He was commenting on the online petition “Save Uber Malaysia” which aimed at retaining the Uber service in the country.

The poll also urged the government to look for ways to monitor the service as an alternative to taxi services.

Syed Hamid also reminded the public that Uber, is a foreign company that is facing a lot of licensing issues in many countries.
