Do not disparage the efforts undertaken by the government in carrying out ceremonial arrangements for flight MH17 victims, said Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said the ceremonial honours for the remains of flight MH17 tragedy crash victims on Friday was special and well carried out.
“We must respect the dead. The Prophet - Nabi Muhammad (pbuh) stood up when he crossed path with a deceased Jewish. Nabi (Muhammad) – as the head of Islam – paid respect to the Jews.
A woman asked Nabi Muhammad why he stood up to pay respect to a Jew? He said that the dead were human. So, we must emulate Rasullullah to honour the dead. Alhamdullilah, Malaysians followed the footsteps of Nabi Muhammad to stand up and respect the dead,” he said.
Shahidan spoke to reporters after opening the meetings of Ipoh Timur Umno Youth, Puteri and Wanita Umno division on Saturday.
He was responding to comments from certain quarters disputing the full military honour accorded to 20 victims of the MH17 tragedy who arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 9.45am, Friday, as Malaysians observed a national day of mourning.
Shahidan also applauded the repatriation team for carrying out the MH17 ceremonial honours successfully and with the highest circumspect tribute.
On Saturday, PKR lawmaker First Admiral (R) Mohd Imran Hamid said the government went overboard with the national day of mourning and ceremony for the victims of flight MH17.
The Lumut MP further questioned why a similar honour was not bestowed on the 10 security personnel who were killed during the Lahad Datu intrusion in February last year.
