Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (ISMA) should not be investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 following the extreme remark released by the non-governmental organization (NGO), said Segambut Member of Parliament (MP) Lim Lip Eng.
Lip Eng said as a party with principle, DAP should refute any attempts of using the Sedition Act against ISMA.
The DAP assemblyman said, no one deserves to be a victim of the British colonial heritage acts, including ISMA.
"I urge for ISMA not be victimised by the act which has been opposed by the DAP for a long time.
"Let 'stunt' Isma politics that was perhaps directed by the political masters to divert people's attention from more important matters be judged using laws which are not politically harsh and draconian in nature," he said in a statement.
He added that other provisions in the existing Penal Code are enough to apply to any extreme party issued a statement that could threaten national unity.
Lip Eng said, ISMA has attracted public attention and taken over PERKASA's task of labelling people with various titles.
"They have managed to take our attention off more important matters like the BN government's weakness in addressing the issue of the lost MH370 aircraft, Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the trespassing at the Sabah waters ," he said.
On May 7, the Chief of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed that ISMA president Abdul Rahman Abdullah Zaik was being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948.
This was following Abdullah’s extreme labelling of the Chinese as immigrants.
Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad also reacted to Abdullah's remarks stating that it did not benefit the country.
