The Department of Environment (DoE) will immediately investigate the alleged pollution of Sungai Giling by pig faeces in Kampung Batu Laut, Sepang, Selangor.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said a thorough investigation was required to determine the real source of the pollution.
"A number of solutions can be put forward...anything involving the livestock industry.
"If there's a need to relocate (the farm) from the area, we can issue the order, like the case of the pig farm near an airport in Sarawak which was instructed to relocate due to the stench.
"But if the claim of the river (Sungai Giling) being polluted by pig faeces is true, legal action can be taken against the farm owner," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby, here, today.
A daily newspaper reported today the claims by villagers on the pollution of the river which had forced some to move out of the area after selling off their land there.
According to the news report, more than 12 hectares of freehold land belonging to Malay residents were sold to others as they could no longer live with the stench and pollution of the river by pig faeces. -- Bernama
