The statistics on domestic violence as recorded by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry showed that even though women continue to be the majority of victims, there are male victims as well.
The amendments to Domestic Violence Act 2017 was proposed in Parliament recently following an increase in domestic violence, which currently recorded a sharp increase of 15,617 cases from 2014 up to December 2016.

On April 3, for the first time in the country, the issue of the rights and interests of men in the case of domestic violence was highlighted after Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim tabled the proposed amendments to the act, also known as Act 152, in Parliament.
Many are perhaps cynical about this efforts but statistics have shown that men who were often said to be dominant or macho could also become victims of domestic violence.
