Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reminded the people to not be duped with promises made by the opposition in its manifesto which was announced recently.
He said many of the promises made by the opposition during the 2008 general election had yet to be fulfilled, like aid for single mothers and free water supply.
"The people should not be duped with the promises made by Pakatan Rakyat. Although they sound attractive, there are many promises it made during the 2008 general election which have not been fulfilled that there are people in Selangor who have taken the matter to the court.
"For Malaysians who realise the importance of peace, security and unity, Barisan Nasional has proven it. Only BN is capable of safeguarding the people interests and made Malaysia a developed country by 2020," he added.
He was speaking at the 1Malaysia People's Gathering and the launch of the Federal Territory Blue Wave which was attended by about 50,000 members of the BN component parties at Bandar Tun Razak here Sunday night.
Also present were Muhyiddin's wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, Gerakan President Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, PPP President Datuk Seri M.Kayveas, Federal Territory BN deputy chairman Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin and the Federal Territory MIC chairman Datuk M.Saravanan.
Muhyiddin said another reason why the people should not believe the promises made by the opposition was because its senior leader himself had said that the election manifesto was not a promise that should be fulfilled.
The deputy prime minister said he was also made to understand that professionals, including bankers, disapproved the opposition's election manifesto.
He called on the BN machinery in the Federal Territory to intensify efforts to win back seats which they lost to the opposition in 2008.
In another development, the deputy prime minister congratulated and thanked members of the security forces who fought to defend the country's sovereignty following the intrusion by Sulu terrorists in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
He also criticised quarters for making irresponsible statements on the intrusion in Sabah.
