Light Rail Transit (LRT) users need not worry about having a safe ride in the trains.
Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) group managing director, Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz gave his assurance that despite the problems experienced by two Kelana Jaya Line LRT trains yesterday, they are still safe to be used.
He said safety audits are carried out each week to ensure that the trains operate safely.
"On the incident yesterday, we managed to handle it fast and all the passengers were safe.
"All 53 passengers were transferred safely using train-to-train method in a short time, and it took less than five minutes," he told reporters at a media briefing on the new extensions for the LRT Ampang Line, here today.
Azmi however said he will meet with the train providers to take appropriate action to prevent such incidents from recurring.
On Wednesday, two LRT trains experienced brake system problems at two different locations -- first near the Setiawangsa station and then the Universiti station -- causing fire to break out and disrupting the route temporarily.
Following the incident, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had called for a safety audit to be carried out on LRT services.
The incident had spooked many LRT commuters who were fearful of their safety.
