Datuk Jailani Johari said most media users were often careless by uploading their personal data openly in social media.
Members of the public are reminded not to indiscriminately divulge their personal particulars on social media.
Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said most media users were often careless by uploading their personal data openly in social media without realising that irresponsible parties could use the data for negative things.
"I would like to advise users out there not to simply share their personal information such as name, date of birth or bank account number.
"Most social media users are excited to upload pictures containing personal information, for example, examination results containing their identity card number and others or uploading passport photo with many personal data displayed," he told reporters here.
Jailani, who is also Hulu Terengganu Member of Parliament, said information or data of Malaysians are governed under the Personal Data Protection Department (JPDP), an agency under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry.
