Apartment and low-cost house owners have been cautioned against being misled by certain quarters that want to foil residential redevelopment projects initiated by the government.
Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the irresponsible parties had resorted to such tactics for their own agenda and were not really concerned for the interest of the house owners.
"This happened in my own place in Kampung Kerinchi where the redevelopment project had been delayed for more than two years because the 35 home owners were deceived by propaganda. They were among over 500 in the area who had initially agreed to the proposed redevelopment," he told reporters, here, Sunday night.
Raja Nong Chik had earlier attended a gathering of more than 1,000 residents of the Sri Johor, Sri Pulau Pinang and Sri Melaka flats and Taman Ikan Emas in Bandar Tun Razak to discuss the proposed redevelopment in the area.
Based on the census in October last year, 4,646 of the 5,669 residents had agreed to the proposed project.
According to the initial plan, the home owners would be given new apartment units measuring 800sq ft each, while tenants of Kuala Lumpur City Hall flats would be given the choice to purchase a new house for RM28,000.
