Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has reminded the people not to simply issue statements that could cause chaos in the country.
He said all social web users, such as Facebook and blog writers, must be careful in issuing statements, particularly those that touched on racial sensitivity.
"We will take action under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 if needed. We have freedom of speech but (it) has its limits," he told reporters after attending the community-to-the-police appreciation night here on Sunday night.
Khalid also said he had just received a report relating to the action taken by certain quarters that questioned the contents of a Friday sermon and advice to Muslims on the Valentine's Day celebration.
The reminder was made to avoid any uneasy atmosphere in the country, he said.
