KOTA BHARU: The police have advised the public against bringing young children to observe the level of the Kelantan River at Tambatan D'Raja here.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat urged the public to remain vigilant about the rising level of the river.
He said that aside from the danger of being swept away by strong currents, there is also the risk of being bitten by venomous animals in the floodwaters.
"It is a common practice among Kelantan people to monitor the river's water level during the monsoon season, making it an annual tradition in the state.
"However, even a small mistake could lead to tragedy. We do not want the ongoing floods in Kelantan to turn into a 'festival' where people play in the water, even near their homes, as this raises safety concerns," he told Bernama today.
He added that police personnel would patrol the area to discourage such activities.
