KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has advised the people, especially politicians, to reflect on themselves so that the country is not dragged into politics of uncertainties.
In a statement, Comptroller of the Royal Household, Istana Negara, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said His Majesty explained that the country was still facing various problems and a difficult future due to the threat of the COVID-19 epidemic.
“Al-Sultan Abdullah also reiterated His Majesty's advice to Members of Parliament during the Opening Ceremony of the Third Term of the 14th Parliament last May.
"His Majesty demands maturity in politics and understanding as well as embodying the grievances of the people and not neglecting the well-being of the people," he said in a statement on Friday.
Commenting further, Ahmad Fadil said His Majesty also stressed that politicians should not end differences of opinion with enmity, but rather resolve it through consultation and legal process as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
The political temperature in the country has risen again following a press conference on September 23 by PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who claimed to have the support of the majority of MPs to form a new government.
Following that, the Opposition Leader had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong last Monday to explain the statement.
However, Istana Negara issued a statement that Anwar simply submitted the number of members of the Dewan Rakyat who allegedly supported him without providing a list of names to strengthen the allegation.
Following the action, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong advised Anwar to abide by and respect the legal process as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
