Don't spread information on banned Bersih rally - Jailani
JAILANI: Anyone using the Internet to publicise activities like the Bersih 4.0 rally could face action under the existing law.
The Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has warned social media users not to spread information on the Internet, on any gathering banned by the government.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Jailani Johari said the MCMC with the cooperation of the Royal Malaysian Police would not hesitate to take legal action against netizens who ignored the warning.
"Anyone using the Internet to publicise activities like the Bersih 4.0 rally could face action under the existing law," he told reporters after the opening of the Hulu Terengganu UMNO division delegates' meeting by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also UMNO vice-president, here, today.
Jailani said his ministry was now looking at all the existing cyber laws in addressing the issue of social media today.
He said cyber problems and threats could not be viewed lightly as these could adversely impact society and country although many people benefited from the facility.
